Golf notes

Athlone Golf Club

Our summer junior programme is in full swing every Monday and Tuesday. It is a fantastic sight on a Monday morning not only to see all the young golfers eager to play, but also the commitment of the members who help out. They are the future of our Golf Club – and they are in good hands. Well done to all concerned.

Boyle Golf Club

Open week continues with a Ladies 18-hole stroke on Tuesday and a nine hole Stableford for the Men, a Scotch Mixed Foursomes on Wednesday, Thursday will be a Mens 18-hole stroke and nine hole stroke for the ladies.  Friday a nine hole Stableford re-entry and Saturday a Three Ball Rumble for Ladies & Gents. The finale on Sunday is an 18 Hole stroke for Ladies & Gents. Thanks to all our sponsors and also to the organising committee, we look forward to a great week. In inter club news well done to our Cecil Ewing team who beat Strokestown last Saturday and will play Rosses Point in the next round. Commiserations to our seniors who lost to Roscommon in the Jimmy Carroll Cup last Wednesday week. Good luck to our juniors who play in the Kenny Cup in Castlebar on Tuesday.

Good luck to Roscommon in next Sunday’s Connacht Final against Mayo in the Hyde. Good luck also to the Roscommon minors against Mayo with special mention for local players Donal Smith, Enda Smith and Tadgh McKenna.

Carrick-on-Shannon Golf Club

Next weekend we have a change to the fixture list with the PGA Tankard replacing the 4Ball. Play Saturday or Sunday book online at www.carrickgolfclub.ie

After last weekend’s very successful Lady Captain’s prize won by President Molly Daly, attention will now focus on Captain’s Day, or should I say Captain’s marathon, because this year’s winner will come after 45 holes of golf. All tees off on Saturday July 30th with the qualifier, best 81 cards will qualify for Sunday July 31st when 27 three balls will attempt to make the 5th 9 play off on Sunday afternoon at 5 pm. Sundays play tees off at 8 am with the draw based on how players finished on Saturday, but note scores won’t carry into Sunday. Book your preferred playing time now online for draw which will be done on Friday July 29th.

On Saturday morning The Cecil Ewing team played their first round match against Castle Dargan, winning very convincingly by 4 ½ - ½ . They now face Ballaghaderreen in the next round.
