Athlone Golf Club


Athlone lady golfers woke up to brilliant sunshine for Captain Kay Vaughan's prize. The Captain's Prize was eventually captured by a worthy winner: Anne Egan Farrell, who was the leading qualifier with 74 nett. After the presentation a great night's entertainment was enjoyed by all and Lady Captain Kay's Day was deemed a fitting tribute to a popular captain.

  Commiserations to our Junior Cup team who were beaten 3/2 in the Connacht semi-final last Saturday. Congratulations to our Fred Daly team who have reached the Connacht Plate Final after a comprehensive 5/2 win over Gort. They play the first leg of the final this Friday in Carrick-on-Shannon and the return in Athlone on Sunday.

  Best of luck to Johnny Bracken and his team of Young Guns – Dan O’Connor, Rory Delaney, Gavin Delaney, Sean Doyle, Michael Fagan, Charlie McMickan and Keith Coyle.


Ballaghaderreen Golf Club


Saturday July 2nd was Captain’s Day (Mr Packie Doran). There was a great turnout on a great day and the winners were as follows: 1st John Corcoran; 2nd Martin Green; Gross Mark Frain; 3rd Brian Tansey.

Boyle Golf Club


The King Harmon is progressing well and the Mixed Foursomes have reached the quarter-final stage. 

Competitions for this week are the Mens Competition on Thursday night. Friday is social golf with a nine hole Scramble. Open Week commences next Saturday and runs until Sunday 17th. Saturdays competition will be an 18 Hole Ladies and Gents Stableford, with a Four Ball Better Ball on Sunday. There are competitions each day, please check noticeboard for full details. The Club heard with sadness of the passing of Jim Fitzpatrick. Jim was a long-standing member of the club and we send condolences to all his family. A guard of honour was arranged at the removal as a mark of respect. The Club also send condolences to the Feely family on the recent passing of Michael Feely in Manchester. Ar dheis de.go raibh a hanam dhílis. May they rest in peace.


Castlerea Golf Club


Club sponsored scramble will be held on Friday July 8th at 7 pm, followed by the presentation of the prizes of the following competitions – Hester’s Golden Eagle, Newman’s Menswear and Action Video Productions. 


Carrick-on-Shannon Golf Club


Next weekend we have the first running of the Barber Cup, sponsored by Michael ‘Barber’ Masterson. This is a 3 man rumble, where one score count on holes 1-6, two scores on holes 7-12 and all 3 on holes 13-18. Play Saturday or Sunday with re-entry, on same team or different team. As always book online. On Saturday next July 2nd we play in the Junior Cup qualifier in Claremorris, with top 4 teams qualifying for matchplay on Sunday.
