Soccer notes

CP Ajax

In a re-fixed game last Sunday, CP Ajax U12s took on Ballymoe in the league, winning 1-0 thanks to a goal from Fergal Moylan. A great display in goal from Callum Earley helped keep Ballymoe scoreless. Recently in Tarmon the U12s played Shiven in a game which Shiven dominated from the start. CP had few chances. Matthew Keaveney came close after a David Coyne corner in the last minute of the first half. In the second half Shiven scored to leave the final score at 1-0 to Shiven. The U12s play Roscommon in the cup final next Sunday at 5 pm in Shiven. Our U11s were in St Johns last Thursday. After five minutes they were a goal behind. Although playing well they were not creating chances. In the second half with five minutes left St Johns conceded a corner. Padraic Conway with the perfect cross found Daniel Connolly who scored with a header. One minute later another corner saw another combination from the same duo lead to the winner, CP coming out on top 2-1.

The U11 team were beaten 2-1 by CP Ajax in a closely-fought game, Simon Leonard scoring for St John’s. At U10 level the Champions League team played a friendly against CP Ajax and were beaten, but Ronan Finnerty scored two goals and Keith Doyle one in the defeat. The Europa League team played a quarter-final against the same opponents and won well, with two goals from Brian Gormley and one each from Gary Connaughton, Killian Kelly, Mark Watson and James Hayes. There is a meeting for U18 lads interested in playing during the coming season on Monday 27th June at 7 pm at the pitch. The league is starting soon so please attend if you want to play.

Skyvalley Rovers

Due to the exams, there wasn’t much football action last week. The Over 35s continued their unbeaten start to the season when they drew 1-1 with Ballinasloe Town in Onagh Park. Town took the lead after 15 minutes and Rovers equalised midway through the second half when Teddy Galvin scored a penalty after a Fintan Moore cross had been handled in the area. Skyvalley are joint top of the league with CB Trotters after five games. The U-12s lost 5-1 away to Moore United. Oisin Kelly got the Rovers goal. Congratulations to Vinnie and Anita Costello who got married last Friday. Skyvalley Golf Society:  Mattie Croffey's captain’s prize event was held in Roscommon last Saturday. Vinnie Costello took top prize.
