There were 850 cattle on offer at Castlerea Mart on October 4th. Trade was unchanged with a good attendance of buyers present. Prices were similar to the previous week, with increased umbers of farmers at the weanling rings. Plain stick were still hard sold. The springer sale at 7 pm attracted a very large crowd with a 90 percent clearance. Heifers: Ch 455 kgs 750, Ch 510 kgs 738, AA 405 kgs 740, Ch 540 kgs 790, Ch 530 kgs 775, Lim 480 kgs 730, B. Her 460 kgs 670, BB 450 kgs 750. Dry cows: Ch 565 kgs 690, Sim 790 kgs 985, Ch 670 kgs 710, Sim 625 kgs 655, AA 700 kgs 840, AA 590 kgs 570, B. Her 580 kgs 420. Cows with calves at foot made from 645 to 1,400 per head. A special sale of springers took place at 7 pm Springers on offer made from 820 to 1,580 with an average price of 1,200 and a 90 percent clearance. There was a very large number of cattle on offer compared to the previous week. Slightly easier trade. Good demand for quality lots on offer. Stag ewes: Similar trade to previous week. Prices ranged from 30 to 59. Breeding ewes: Hogget ewes ranged in price from 90 to 128, first crop ewes ranged in price from 75 to 93, second crop ewes ranged in price from 70 to 86 and third crop ewes ranged in price from 55 to 68.
