In the Roscommon & District League, Skyvalley Rovers first team took on Ballinasloe Town in a do-or-die match in the Curragh Grounds, Ballinasloe. Skyvalley needed to secure a win in order to finish level on points with Ballinasloe and thus forcing a league play-off.
The match was a tense affair with plenty of good football being played by both teams throughout the game. Skyvalley took an early lead in the first half through a well-taken goal by in-form midfielder Emmett Kelly. The game was ultimately decided in the last few minutes when Skyvalley were awarded a penalty for a foul by the Ballinasloe goalkeeper on David Grehan. Emmett Kelly stepped forward and confidently dispatched the penalty to the net.
In the time remaining Ballinasloe sought to get back into the game and put the Skyvalley defence under tremendous pressure, but they failed to make a breakthrough due in part to the brilliant goalkeeping of Skyvalley goalie Benny Lynch.
