Bord Gais Ladies NFL semi-final
Roscommon 2-15 Louth 2-6
A good second half showing saw Roscommon power past Louth to qualify for the Division Four Ladies National Football League Final in which they will meet Westmeath in a local derby on the weekend after next.
In this semi-final played at Breffni Park last Sunday, Roscommon started slowly while Louth were quickly into their stride. Jenny McGuinness was prominent for the Wee County early on and she scored three points before a soft goal was conceded when Emma Conlonís free went all the way to the Roscommon net in the 21st minute.
Roscommon were five points down at one stage but they recovered somewhat as half-time approached to score three unanswered points through Marla Candon, Sarah Finnerty and Jenny Higgins. Half-time score: Louth 1-4 Roscommon 0-5.
Roscommon were much better in the second half. Emer Casey pointed an early free and then Cliodhna McHugh followed up with a well-taken goal. Roscommon then scored almost at will with Cliodhna McHugh, Natalie McHugh, Jenny Higgins and Jenny Conlon all on the score-sheet.
Roscommon then put the icing on the cake when Cliodhna McHugh scored her second goal ten minutes from time. Susan Byrne scored a late goal for Louth but it was only of consolation value and Roscommon ran out the impressive winners and have now been promoted to Division Three.
