Comanís Juniors impress

Last weekend saw 11 of the Comanís SC Junior A squad travel to Limerick University 50 metre long course pool to take part in the Gerry Ryan Invitation gala.

For most of these swimmers it was their first long course event. They were accompanied by their coach and team manager Mike Moran. Each swimmer swam to the best of their ability, all achieving personal best times with some making it to the finals of their events.

Day 1 saw the boys event age 11 and under 50m Freestyle, where young Mickey Moran, his brother Ben Moran and Ciaran Regan take part in which Mickey and Ciaran made the final and Mickey taking the gold medal. Ciaran was placed 10th overall.

Next up was the girls event 50m Freestyle, where five of the girls took part. Emma Lawani, Jenny Kilduff, Meabh Tiernan, Roisin Campbell and Tara Dolan. All girls making great times and some making personal bests. In the 200m Backstroke Mickey Moran was the only swimmer taking part and he went on to win the bronze medal.

In the girls 100m Breastroke, five of the girls Emma Lawani, Tara Dolan, Meabh Tiernan, Roisin Campbell and Jenny Kilduff took part. In which Tara Dolan made the final (10th place).

The next event was the 200m Freestyle, which proved to be the swim of the day for the talented Mickey Moran where he took home another gold medal and to top that he was also two seconds inside the Under 12 Irish age group division 1 time.

Next up was the boys in the 50m Backstroke where again, Mickey Moran, Ben Moran and Ciaran Regan swam. This saw Ciaran and Mickey both reaching the final, Ciaran finishing 10th place and Mickey taking the silver medal. In the girls 50m Backstroke Emma Lawani, Tara Dolan and Jenny Kilduff took part. All swimming great and doing their club proud once again.

On day 2 Sunday, the first event for the Coman swimmers was the girls 50m Breastroke which saw Jenny Kilduff, Rebecca Carroll, Emma Lawani and Roisin Campbell taking part with Jenny Kilduff reaching the final (9th place). Then came the boys 50m Breastroke where the clubís two youngest swimmers, nine-year-old Ciaran Regan and Cian Campbell and ten-year-old Sam Connolly took part. Again, the boys swam admirably with Ciaran Regan reaching the final and finishing (6th place). The club had only one swimmer in 100m Backstroke with Michael Moran taking home the silver in this event.

All of the young swimmers did the club proud and they all thoroughly enjoyed themselves, which is of huge importance for such a young and dedicated group. Thanks to their coach and mentor Michael Moran for all his hard work over the two days.
