Rugby at the CBS is really kicking off at the moment, with student players receiving brand new rugby gear, and the announcement that a team will be entered in next year’s Roscommon Connacht Schools Rugby Junior Cup.
The project has been made possible by Creggs Rugby Club, and grant-aided by Roscommon Sports Partnership. It is being organised within the school by PE teacher, Mrs. Noelle Geoghegan, and accredited rugby coach to the CBS, Mr. Conor Brandon.
Students within the CBS are thrilled to be given the opportunity to play rugby, and the numbers taking up the sport in first year are high. School Principal, Mrs. Josephine Connaughton is also very pleased with the new initiative. “We are delighted to be able to offer students the opportunity to receive the very best in rugby coaching, as well as the gear necessary to help them train. I look forward to seeing the new Junior team compete in the Connacht Schools Rugby Cup next year. I would also like to sincerely thank all those who have helped organise and fund the project. We already have a strong football and hurling tradition within the school. May we also add rugby to that list.”
