GAA Coaching Corner

Award One Youth

Roscommon Coaching and Games Development are ready to hold their Award one Youth/Adult football course. The first night of the course is on Friday night, March 11th. Tutors Peter Carney and Willie Hegarty will be in touch with all clubs this week. All coaches undertaking the course must have pre-booked. The cost of course is €50. 

Connacht Colleges

Roscommon CBS will play Carrick-on-Shannon CS in the Connacht Colleges senior B football championship final on Saturday, March 12th at Elphin at 12.30 pm. Last week Roscommon CBS defeated Rice College Westport by 0-19 to 1-11 AET while Carrick also required extra time to get the better of Kiltmagh by 3.10 to 0-17.

Primary schools

Roscommon Coaching and Games Development will commence their football and Hurling part time primary schools coaching on Monday March 21st.

VHI Cul camp

Roscommon Coaching and Games Development are inviting applications from third level students for employment on football and hurling VHI Cúl Camps for 2011. Students are urged to send in their CV to GAA Games Manager Willie Hegarty by email to by March 31st. All students who apply must ensure they have received GAA Garda clearance. No person can be employed this year without being Garda vetted. Roscommon Coaching and Games Development will shortly be announcing all their dates and venues for this year’s Roscommon GAA VHI Cúl Camps in both football and hurling. 

Board meeting

The next meeting of the Roscommon Sports Partnership Board is on Thursday, March 10th at 6 pm in the Roscommon VEC offices.

Handball course

County Roscommon handball association are holding a handball zero foundation course for interested coaches on Sunday March 13th in St Coman’s handball club from 10 am to 4 pm. Please contact Liam Kelly by email on or (087) 7687785 for further details.

Minor leagues

The County minor football leagues continue on this Sunday March 13th, please check fixtures list in the local papers for all the details.

Into the West

Articles and photographs are now invited for the next edition of Into the West, the magazine of the Connacht GAA Council. GAA clubs and other units with items for inclusion should send them to the magazine’s editor Liam Horan at, or by post to Liam Horan, The Farmyard, Liskillen, Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo.  Clubs and other units of the GAA can avail of the magazine to publicise events they are planning to hold in the near future.
