GAA Coaching Corner

VHI Cul camp employment

Roscommon Coaching and Games Development are inviting applications from third level students for employment on Football and Hurling VHI Cul Camps for 2011. All students are urged to send in their CV to GAA Games Manager Willie Hegarty by email to by March 31st. All students who apply must ensure they have received GAA Garda clearance. No person can be employed this year without being Garda vetted.

Foundation courses  

This coming weekend Roscommon coaching and games development will be holding a football foundation course for West Roscommon clubs in Tarmon NS Castlerea on Friday night at 7.30 pm. This year all coaches involved with underage teams in both codes are asked to have at least a foundation course.

Minor league

The County minor football leagues commence on this Sunday February 27th with the U16 football league starting on Sunday 6th March.

U15/16 squad

On this Saturday, February 26th in Padraig Pearseís GAA grounds Roscommon U15/16 football development squads play Offaly in two games at 11 am. All players will be contacted this week by co-ordinators with all the details.

Coach education

The West Roscommon GAA football foundation course part one takes place in Tarmon NS on February 25th from 7 pm to 10 pm and again on Saturday morning from 10 am to 2.30 pm. On March 5th, a diet and nutrition, strength and conditioning workshop takes place from 10 am to 2 pm in the County Board Office in Roscommon. On March 9th, the Roscommon GAA Award One Youth/Adult football takes place from 7 pm to 10 pm in the County Board Office. Roscommon coaching and games development will be in touch with all clubs regarding their date and venue.

Into the West

Articles and photographs are now invited for the next edition of Into the West, the magazine of the Connacht GAA Council. GAA clubs and other units with items for inclusion should send them to the magazineís editor Liam Horan at, or by post to Liam Horan, The Farmyard, Liskillen, Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo. Clubs and other units of the GAA can avail of the magazine to publicise events they are planning to hold in the near future.
