GAA Coaching Corner

Foundation courses

This coming weekend Roscommon coaching and games development will be holding a football foundation course for East Roscommon clubs in St Barryís GAA club on this Friday night at 7.30 pm and part two from 10 am to 1.30 pm on Saturday morning. This year in Roscommon, all coaches involved with under teams in both codes are asked to have at least a foundation course.

On February 25th West Roscommon GAA football foundation course part one takes place from 7 pm to 10 pm and part two the following morning from 10 am to 2.30 pm, both at Tarmon NS. A diet and nutrition, strength and conditioning workshop takes place at Roscommon GAA County Board office on March 5th from 10 am to 2 pm.  On March 9th, the Roscommon GAA Award One youth/adult football takes place in the County Board office from 7 pm to 10 pm and the same course takes place at the same times in Kilbride GAA Club on March 11th and at Kilbride GAA pitch on March 12th from 10 am to 3 pm and on March 19th at the same venue and time. Roscommon coaching and games development will be in touch with all clubs regarding their date and venue.

B football final

This yearís Connacht colleges senior B football league final will have a real Roscommon feel to it as Roscommon CBS play Carrick-on-Shannon CS in Elphin on this Saturday, January 19th at 12.30 pm. Both schools have already qualified for the B championship semi final. A big crowd is expected on Saturday for the showdown.

Games development

The first meeting of the year for the Roscommon Coaching and Games Development Committee will take place in the Roscommon GAA county board offices on Tuesday night, February 22nd at 8.30pm. Each member will receive an email during the week to confirm their attendance.

Coaching officers meeting

A meeting for all South-Roscommon club coaching officers will take place in St Aidanís GAA club rooms on next Monday night February 21st at 8 pm. 

Partnership board AGM

The AGM of the Roscommon Sports Partnership board will take place on this Thursday evening February 17th at 8 pm in Hannonís Hotel, Roscommon.

Schools lose out

Unfortunately both Castlerea CS and Abbey College Boyle lost out in the Connacht Colleges senior C football quarter finals last week. Castlerea lost out to Colaiste Iognaid while Boyle were beaten by Holy Rosary Mountbellew.

Articles and photographs are now invited for the next edition of Into the West, the magazine of the Connacht GAA Council. GAA clubs and other units with items for inclusion should send them to the magazineís editor Liam Horan at, or by post to Liam Horan, The Farmyard, Liskillen, Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo. Clubs and other units of the GAA can avail of the magazine to publicise events they are planning to hold in the near future.
