GAA Club Preview – Your Club this Weekend



Entries need to be finalised for Senior Scór by this weekend. Those who wish to participate in any of the Scór activities should contact Martin Dolan at 086-2413529 immediately. The draw will be held circa St Patrick’s weekend and it includes a number of attractive prizes, including a weekend in New York in May for the Roscommon v New York in the Connacht Championship. All team managers of adult, under age and ladies teams are requested to attend a meeting in the Clubroom on this Thursday evening at 8.30 pm to arrange pitch usage rotas for the coming season. It is essential that all managers attend. The county team and management are wished an enjoyable and successful weekend in London for the game with London. Well done to Seanie on his performance against Longford on Sunday.  

Boyle Ladies Club: The Annual General Meeting of Boyle Ladies GAA Club will be held in the Clubroom on Sunday next at 4 pm. All players, mentors, parents of underage players and all who wish to see ladies football continue to develop in Boyle are asked to attend.


The Clann na nGael ladies AGM was held recently and the following officers were elected – Chairperson: Mary Keena; Vice Chairperson: Terry O’Neill; Secretary: Cliona Dunning; Assistant Secretary: Monica Lennon; ASAP Officer: Kathleen Doran-O’Rourke; Insurance Officer: Marie Brady. Training is set to commence for Gaelic for mothers and beginners on Wednesday nights at 8.30 pm. All are welcome.

Patrons are reminded that membership is now due. Players who are not members are not allowed to play for the club, and the leagues are approaching. Members are asked to pay Padraig Seery or any committee member.

Training has commenced for all adult players on Tuesday and Friday evenings in Johnstown at 8 pm. Competitive games are coming up in the next few weeks.

The club would like to congratulate Ruaidhri McManus and Darragh Petit on being selected on the county minor panel. 

The under 16 year will start this coming Thursday evening at 7.30. All players are asked to attend and new players are very welcome.

Training has commenced for the under 14 team on Tuesday evenings at 6 30.

Eire Og GAA Club will officially launch their Cycle and Climb of Croagh Patrick Fundraising event in association with Mayo/Roscommon Hospice Foundation on Sunday, 13th February in Creatons, Lisacul at 9.30 pm.

The one-year club lotto tickets are due for renewal and tickets are available from any club member. Reminder to all those involved with underage teams to submit their GAA Garda Clearance Forms as soon as possible. Ladies U16 training continues in Loughglynn Community Centre on Tuesday evenings from 7-8 pm.  Congratulations to Chris Flanagan on winning an All-Ireland Freshers medal with IT Tralee this week. Club Lotto Rota as follows – Loughglynn: Pat Doorey and Seamus Regan; Lisacul: Ray Flanagan. The club extends sympathy to the following families on recent bereavements – Devaney family, Errit; Duffy family, Errit and Deery family, Loughglynn. 


Kilbride GAA Club wishes to thank all who supported the Table Quiz in the Kilbride Inn last Saturday night. In total 31 tables tackled the questions and the club hopes an enjoyable night was had by all.

The Kilbride GAA Club scooped the best kept grounds award for both Roscommon and Connaught at an awards night in the Royal Theatre, Castlebar last Friday. The awards came with a €4,000 prize and the club wishes to thank all who work so diligently on keeping the facilities to such a high standard.

Club membership is now due for the 2011 season. All players must be club members to ensure that they are insured should they suffer an injury during the year. Membership can be paid to Johnnie Farrell (086-8258887).

Kilbride GAA Club wishes to offer condolences to our President Fr. Raymond Browne on the recent death of his brother, Vincent. May the Lord have mercy on his soul and may he rest in peace.


The ladies club and minor club will hold their annual presentation in the Kon Tiki on Sunday, 20th February from 6.30 to 9 pm. And when that’s over it will be time to get ready for the senior club’s presentation night on Friday, the 11th of March in the Shannon Key West Hotel where a buffet instead of a dinner dance will take place. More details to follow. Anyone wishing to travel to the Roscommon Punchestown race day need to contact Charlie Reynolds or Tommy Deehan before 15th February & a deposit of €20 is needed. There will be a registration night for all players and members on Friday 11th February from 8 to 9.30. No players are allowed or covered to train or play until membership is paid. The parish league will be held on 19th February – weather-permitting – and on the following evening, Sunday 20th, the minor and ladies club presentation will be held with more details next week. Also the club will be holding a monster auction on Sunday, March 20th. More details to follow. 


The annual American Tea Party and presentation night will be held in the Silver Eel on Saturday, the 19th of February and tickets for the night cost €10. Members of the executive committee will be calling to homes during the week to sell the club lotto tickets for the coming year and explain the new format. Well done to Paul Garvey who lined out for Roscommon in their recent league game against Longford and we wish him and the team all the best for the year ahead.


Training for all adult footballers will start back on Friday night next, on field at 8 pm sharp. All players, current or new who are interested in a run-out are encouraged to attend. The club wishes to thank all those who contributed to the recent Church gate collection in aid Roscommon ladies football. Under 16 championship is due to start the weekend 19/20th February. The Ladies Football AGM is fixed for next Sunday, February 13th at 5.30 pm in the Clubhouse. All members and players are asked to attend. Nominations for administration or management posts should be notified to Padraig Kelly on 087-2030913. 


At our AGM last week, Michael Ryan was ratified as our senior team manager for the coming year and we wish him the best of luck in his efforts to gain promotion to the Abbey Hotel League and to do well in the senior championship.

Good luck to the Convent senior girls who take on Presentation Convent, Wexford in the All-Ireland Camogie semi-final this Saturday. Best wishes also to Teresa and her management team.

There will be a youth disco in the Hyde Centre on Friday night, 18th February. DJ is the one and only SKIP.

Our club registration night was held on Friday last and a good number of young players were registered on the night. 

We are currently sorting out our club gear for the coming year and we would very much welcome the return of old helmets, hurleys, sliotars, etc. Anyone who no longer has need of any of those items please contact any club officer.

All those who have yet to pay membership must register soon. Players are reminded that they can’t train or play without paying membership. €40 for the year or €20 for students. The club extends its sympathy to Mary Travers on the death of her mother, Eileen Travers, Faus who passed away recently. The Travers family had a long association with the club.  


The club will be having its first Minor Board meeting this Thursday night at 9.30 pm in the Club Room with Willie Hegarty attending on the night. All underage management and members wishing to help out with the Minor Board are asked to attend.

A registration morning for all underage players, from U8 to minor will take place in Enfield on Saturday, the 12th of February between 11 pm and 1 pm. All players, mentors and club members must be registered to play/take part in club activities. Registration for minor payers is €25, for families with minor players €100 and U8 €5. All players are asked to attend with a parent on the 12th. An important meeting will be held for U8 and U10 players and their parents with the 2011 management team once players are registered. 

For all those interested, a foundation level coaching course will be held in Tarmon N.S., Castlerea on Friday evening, the 25th of February and will conclude on Saturday morning, the 26th. All those managing an underage team must have a coaching qualification and it is also open to any players or other interested parties who wish to participate. Commiserations to Michael Holland and his U21 county colleagues who were defeated by Cavan by three points in the Hastings Cup over the weekend. 


Minor football training takes place on this Saturday, 5th February at 5.30 pm.The management team for this year is Colin Finneran, John Devanney, David Corcoran and Padraig Carney. The league is due to commence in late February.

U-14 football training commences on this Thursday evening in Lecarrow Community Centre at 7.15 pm. A super draw in aid of Roscommon/Mayo Hospice will take place in Murrays, Knockcroghery on this Saturday night, 12th February at 9 pm. Super prizes on the night including two tickets to New York for the Roscommon/New York match in May and also All-Ireland and Connaught Final tickets. Tickets (€20 each or book of 6 for €100) can be purchased up till time of draw. Tickets can be bought by contacting 087-2286076 or on the night.

Thanks to all who supported the St Michael’s Table Quiz in The Moorings on Saturday night last. The winning team were Dermot and Ann Cox and Seamus and Stephen Curley. This event was in aid of the formation of an Under 12 girls football team, and if you were unable to attend the event a donation to the fund is welcome. Garda vetting forms are available from club officers and they must be completed and submitted as soon as possible. There was a very poor turnout at the club’s minor board AGM last week. It was agreed to reconvene the meeting on Thursday, 17th February at 8.30 pm in Keadue Hall. In order to organise next year’s programme for underage teams a much larger attendance is needed. 


The Stephen Nolan Memorial Cup Game between Western Gaels and Tulsk will take place in Tulsk at 2.30 pm on Sunday, 20th February 2011. All donations received at the game will be for the Cuisle Irish Wheelchair Association and the Frenchpark Boxing Club. We hope to see as many people come out and support the two teams as possible. Refreshments afterwards in the Tulsk Inn. Tulsk Minor Club hosted a very enjoyable presentation night in the Macra Hall. We would like to thank all those who helped in any way in the organising and running of the event and especially the sponsors who donated prizes on the night. Special thanks to David Casey and Fintan Cregg who made the presentations.



The club’s registration night will take place on this Saturday, 12th February at 6 pm in Athleague Community Centre. All club members, both underage and senior, are requested to attend. The registration fee includes membership of the club and insurance.

The club would like to extend its congratulations to former club member, Niamh Connolly, now playing with Galway club, Killimor on being part of the panel in the team’s success in the All-Ireland club semi-final. The now progress to the All- Ireland final where we again wish them every good luck.

Also, good luck to the Convent of Mercy senior team – and especially to the club members who are part of the team – in their All-Ireland semi-final on Saturday.


A registration night for all under age and senior players will take place on Friday, February 11th between 7 and 8 pm in Tisrara Community Centre. Please note that there will be an important meeting for all senior players after registration on Friday night at 8 pm.



Suck Valley league begins this coming weekend with home games for U-14, U-16 and our minor team. The games are to be played in Ballygar against Athleague/Tremane. See local noticeboard for times. Please come out and support our young hurlers. This league offers an excellent platform for preparation for the county league and championship campaigns.

The playing season gets underway next weekend when Oran meet Roscommon Gaels in the first round of the minor hurling championship in Lisnamult at 12 noon. Indoor training for all U-8 and U-10 players commences on Thursday evening next in Ballinaheglish Community Centre at 6.30 pm and will continue for the next six weeks.The Annual General Meeting of the Hurling Club was held in the Clubhouse, Rockfield on Saturday, February 5th. Membership was set at €40, with students and the unemployed being charged €20 and Juveniles €10.    It is necessary for all members to complete a membership application form and all are requested to pay their membership as soon as possible to the club registrar Tim Healy from whom application forms are available. All players must be members and registered online before they can play. It is intended to have a membership registration night on February 25th.



Training for U16 girls takes place in Lisalway. Please attend as this league commences on Sunday, 20th February. Minor and Junior training continues on Thursday at 8 pm and Sunday at 2 pm. Best wishes are extended to Aoife Jones and Fiona Casserley who are attending U16 county trials and to Eimear Earley at U14 level.
