GAA Coaching Corner

ABC programme 

Roscommon Coaching and Games Development in conjunction with our coach education tutor work group will be commencing the ABC club nursery programme for five to seven year old boys and girls on this Tuesday evening February 8th at 6.30 pm in St Johnís community centre Lecarrow for all clubs in Mid and South Roscommon. Next week the ABC programme will be in Boyle. This new and exciting initiative will cover nine different circuits of agility, balance, co-ordination, running, jumping, kicking, throwing, catching and striking.

SPB meeting

A meeting of the Roscommon Sports Partnership board will take place on this Thursday evening, February 10th at 6 pm in the Roscommon VEC offices.

Foundation courses

This coming weekend Roscommon Coaching and Games Development will be holding a football foundation course for North Roscommon football clubs in Boyle GAA club centre on this Friday night at 7.30 pm. This year in Roscommon all coaches involved with under teams in both codes are asked to have at least a foundation course.

Connacht championship

Both Castlerea CS and Abbey College Boyle have advanced to the quarter finals of the Connacht Colleges senior C football championship. Castlerea knocked out holders Gorton Abbey last week by 3-12 to 2-9 and will play Colaiste Iognaid in the last eight. Abbey College Boyle had two great wins recently, defeating Balla by 2-11 to 0-12 and then had a cracking 4-10 to 3-12 victory over Ballisadare. Boyle will now play Holy Rosary Mountbellew in the quarter final. Roscommon CBS and Carrick-on-Shannon CS qualified for the Connacht Colleges senior B league final with wins over Strokestown and Ballyhaunis respectively. Both schools are also in the Senior B championship semi finals. Plenty of Roscommon footballers involved in the business end of the Connacht school championships.

Coach education committee

On February 12th, the North Roscommon GAA football foundation course part two, takes place from 10 am to 2.30 pm at Abbey Community College Boyle. On February 18th, part one of the East Roscommon GAA football foundation course takes place from 7 pm to 10 pm at St Barryís GAA club. Roscommon coaching and games development will be in touch with all clubs regarding their date and venue.

Second year football blitz

Roscommon coaching and games development will be holding a second year football blitz on next Tuesday 15th February in Kilbride GAA club. Full time coach Peter Carney will be in contact with all schools this week regarding all the details.
