The club’s adult teams are in preparation for the upcoming O’Rourke Cup and Tansey Cup competitions, which will commence on the last weekend in February. The County Board has also determined that this year’s adult championships will be based on three groups of four teams and that it will commence in early May. The method by which it is proposed to run it will mean that teams will retain an interest in the competition until the last series of games are played. The club’s new clubrooms was awarded a certificate of merit at a gala awards ceremony by the Local Authority Member’s Association (LAMA) in Dublin on Saturday night last. The function was attended by Club officials. The adult Scór competitions will begin shortly and the Club is anxious to participate in all of the categories, which include figure dancing, set dancing, instrumental music, solo singing, recitation, ballad group, novelty act and quiz. Best wishes are extended to Club player Peter Lavin who is going to New Zealand to study there as a module of his degree studies. We look forward to his return for the championship. The AGM of the ladies board took place in the O’Rourke centre on Saturday last with a large number in attendance. The following officers and team management were elected for 2011. There is great interest being shown in the cycle/climb to Croagh Patrick on the August Bank Holiday Weekend. This is a sponsored initiative and will cater for all categories and if you are considering taking part, you still have plenty of time to start training. The club will also be looking for people to help out on the day with bucket collections, Marshalls. A very enjoyable night was had by all on our social night last Saturday in Cuisle. The club would like to thank all who joined us on the night, those who bought tickets and couldn’t attend, sponsors of prizes especially Alan Neilan of Neilan Electrical, Cuisle and their staff for excellent food and service. Congratulations to the award recipients: Player of the Year was awarded to Joe Fallon, Junior Player of the Year to Robbie Kilcommons and Young Player of the Year to Niall Keenan. John Fitzmaurice was awarded the Clubperson of the Year on the night for his hard work and dedication to the club. Ironically John was also celebrating his birthday. The club also made a special presentation to Eamon Fallon who recently retired as principal of St. Ciaran’s NS, Fuerty. Eamon was central to the development of football in the area and the club would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank him for all he has done for young footballers in the parish. The lucky winner of the television was D. Connolly.
Kilbride GAA club will hold minor club meeting on Monday night, 31st January at 9.000 pm in the clubhouse. All interested in underage football for the coming year should attend this meeting.
The club would like to wish Jim Tighe and his new management team the very best of luck in his new role as intermediate manager for the new year. Also best of luck to Seamus Nugent and his team as the take charge of the junior team. New pitch: For those of you are still unaware or are wondering what the story is on the field of dreams, work is due to commence in April and the pitch will be closed for a period of 12 to 18 months. But the club are currently working to keep a training ground up and running while the work is ongoing. Well done to our scór question time team who represented the club and county in the Connacht finals in Castlebar last weekend. The team of Sharon Duffy, Cormac Tighe, Brian McGlynn and their mentor Nuala Diffley came third on the day with Sligo taking first and our neighbours Bornacoola taking second.
The annual family night was held in the Hyde Centre last Friday night. It commenced with Mass for deceased club members and was celebrated by Fr. McLoughlin. The night was a great success and we thank the minor board for organising and the managers and parents for having all the youngsters present and we especially thank Fergal O’Donnell for giving so freely of his time to be with us. Camogie: Congratulations to the Convent of Mercy camogie team, which included three Roscommon Gaels players Shauna Mulry, Aisling Feely and Amy King, on winning the Connacht Senior C Camogie Final on Friday last. The team is managed and coached by Teresa Hession assisted by Stephen Lohan. Their next outing is this weekend when they play the Dublin champions in the All Ireland Quarter Final and we wish them the best of luck. Ladies Football: An important meeting for U-16, Minor and Senior players will be held in the Hyde Centre at 9 pm on Friday 28th January. All players are requested to attend this meeting. U-16 training starts on Saturday 29th January at 12 noon in the Hyde. New players are welcome and they can contact Sinead Hynes at 0876439210. There was no winner of the lotto jackpot when the draw was held on Sunday night. The numbers drawn were 9,15,26 and 28. The Minor Club are holding a registration night next Friday night 28 January in Tisrara Community Centre from 7 pm to 8 pm for all underage players, U8 to Minor/U18. All players must be registered to be eligible to play. Some competitions are starting soon so it is essential that all underage players attend the registration night. Registration fees for 2011 are €20 per player or €50 for 3 or more underage players from the same family.
