‘Name new roundabout after Dermot Earley’

Pauline Scott

Cllr. Domnick Connolly has proposed that the new roundabout at the mart in Roscommon be named in honour of the late Dermot Earley.

His proposal was contained in a notice of motion and the reply from the meetings administrator stated, “The Council will engage in a public consultation process early in 2011 for the naming of the roundabouts in the county. The suggestion made in the notice of motion will be considered in the context of this process.”

Cllr. Domnick Connolly welcomed the reply and said that it would be only fitting that Dermot Earley would be so honoured because he was one of the county’s greatest ambassadors. Cllr. Orla Leyden also supported the motion and suggested that it would be more appropriate to name the roundabout at Casey’s after Dermot Earley as it is nearest Dr. Hyde Park.
