Kilbride Community Games

The AGM of Kilbride Community Games took place in Kilbride Community Centre in October.

The meeting was addressed by Chairman Padraig O’Beirne, who welcomed all present and began by thanking all those who helped throughout the year in anyway. As well as the annual track and field events, 2010 saw Kilbride participate in a new branch of events, including U13 mixed choir trained by Mary O’Connor, Sonia Kelly and Sarah Collins; basketball (trained by Sandra Shanagher, Erica Feeley and Aoife Gui) and talent show (overseen by Collette Carroll, Winnie Walsh and Richie Farrell).

Padraig thanked both national schools in the parish for enabling the children to participate in handwriting and art competitions. He also thanked Stephen Banahan for making the podium for use during the local community games. Special congratulations were extended to all who participated in the county community games.

The following officers were elected: Chairman Padraig O’Beirne; Secretary Margaret Treacy; Treasurer Sandra Shanagher; PRO Mark Treacy; Youth Officer Collette Carroll; Child Liaison Officer Ann-Marie Moran; Games Director Tom Moran; Committee Members Mary O’Connor, Noel McDonnell, Kevin Waldron. Anyone interested in becoming involved in any way are asked to ring Padraig on (086) 3861192, Margaret on (086) 1785465 or Sandra on (086) 0610540.

2010 also brought great pride to our community games when Mark Treacy was awarded youth volunteer of the year award for 2009. Due to the poor weather conditions in late 2009, the awards ceremony, which was held in Ballinasloe, didn’t take place until February 2010. This was a great achievement for the community and members of Kilbride Community Games congratulated Mark on his award.
