GAA Coaching Corner

County U14 9-a-side football blitz

Roscommon coaching and games development are holding an U14 football 9-a-side blitz on this Saturday, 27th November at Kilbride GAA pitch. The U14 blitz with have a 10.30 am start. So far up on 14 clubs are taking part. Teams consist of a panel of twelve players and clubs can enter two teams if they wish and all clubs will receive final details this week. 

Launch of ABC nursery programme

The launch of our new ABC indoor nursery programme will take place in the Roscommon Convent gym on Tuesday evening, November 30th from 4 pm to 6 pm. We are inviting all our primary school teachers in charge of gaelic games and PE in their schools to come along to our demonstration on the evening. All underage club coaches and parents are also invited to the launch.

Connacht Championship action

This week sees the start of the Connacht Colleges senior B and C football championship with some Roscommon secondary schools in action. In the Connacht B Championship Roscommon CBC play holders and last yearís All-Ireland B finalists St Attracts of Sligo in Frenchpark at 12.30 pm. Garbally College play Rice College, Mayo in Tuam at 12.30. In the C Championship Roscommon schools Castlerea CS, St Aloysius College and Abbey Community School Boyle are in action on Wednesday, 1st December. Last week in the preliminary round of the C Championship St Aloysius College defeated St Endaís of Galway City by 1-11 to 0-9. Good luck to all concerned this week.

Primary school coaching

This is the last week of our ten-week block football and hurling part-time schools coaching programme. We thank all our coaches for all their hard work and the schools for their co-operation and assistance.

National coaching conference

Coiste Iomana Roscomain AGM

The AGM of Coiste Iomana Roscomain is on Thursday night, December 9th at 8 pm in the Roscommon County Board GAA offices.

ABC club indoor nursery programme

Roscommon coaching and games development in conjunction with our coach education tutor work group will be commencing shortly our ABC club nursery programme for five to seven year old boys and girls. This new and exciting initiative will cover nine different circuits of Agility, Balance, Co-ordination, Running, Jumping, Kicking, Throwing, Catching and Striking. We will be inviting clubs in each region to a central indoor centre to demonstrate the nursery programme. After that clubs can go back and start their own indoor circuits for their young players over the winter months. Our programme covers all codes football, hurling and camogie. We will be in touch with clubs in the near future regarding our demonstration nights.

Roscommon coach education group

Roscommon coaching and games development have formed a new coach education work group which consists of all our national qualified tutors Willie Hegarty, Peter Carney, Kieran Kilkenny and Seamus Gallagher in football along with Proinsias Killian and Michael Carroll in hurling. The group will work with county coaching officer Seamus Sweeney. The group will liaise with all clubs in 2011 and will hold foundation courses in both football and hurling along with award one child, youth and adult in both codes. The group will be letting clubs know dates and venues in the near future. It is hoped in 2011 that all clubs will ensure that every coach working with their players at underage level will have at least a foundation award course.
