Solid start for the A team

The competitions are arriving thick and fast for the Coman’s Swimming Club A team, with some of the elite competition squad back in action at the Sligo Gala on October 17th last.

Sligo was the first big ‘A’ event of the season in the Connacht Region of Swim Ireland, with 50m races in all four strokes, and freestyle relays in U11, 12-13, 14-15 and 16 and over age groups.

Mikey Moran was the first swimmer in action, and he finished 5th in the 50m butterfly final for U11 Boys in 41.87 seconds. In the girls’ butterfly 14-15 age group, Olivia Fullard took the silver medal in 32.79, and Leah Feane was 4th in 34.59, while Clare Geogeghan won the butterfly gold medal for 16 and overs in 32.34.

Freestyle was next on the list, and Mikey Moran won the silver medal in the Boys U11 section in 34.62. Olivia Fullard was back amongst the medals in the girls 14-15 age group with another Silver for Freestyle (31.05), with Sasha Hibbs 5th in the same final in 31.62. Clare Geogeghan took a second Gold in the 16 and over freestyle in 30.64, while Erica Delaney won the Silver medal in the same final in 31.77.

Mixed fortunes followed in the Backstroke. Mikey Moran was disqualified in his swim for a mistake while turning, but Leah Feane won the 14-15 year olds Silver medal in 36.18 secs, and Erica Delaney won the gold medal for 16 and overs (38.38).

Breaststroke gave the girls more success, with a 1-2 in both the 14-15 and 16 and over age groups. Olivia Fullard added the 14-15yrs gold medal to her haul in 39.46, with Tymora Freeman-Stannett taking silver in 41.37. Clare Geogeghan made it three gold medals for the day with a win in the 16 and overs in 39.95, with Erica Delaney (43.10) taking the silver in the same final to cap a good personal performance for her.
