Roscommon Underwater Search and Rescue held a sponsored swim on Sunday September 26th. Fifteen club members completed the 8 km swim. Liz Breen was first to complete the swim with a notable time of two hours and fifty minutes. The final swimmer reached Lecarrow in just under four hours.
Weather conditions were perfect on the day and swimmers reported “it was tough but enjoyable”. While some members were under water, others provided back-up support, boat cover and medical assistance during the event.
Portrun Kayaking Club came out in full force, providing cover for the swim. Organisers would like to thank them for their help and support. This event could not have been run without them. The club would also like to thank the people of Roscommon for their generous donations, particularly during these difficult times. The money raised will help to build a new training unit for County Roscommon.
The club will be recruiting and training new members shortly. If you are interested please come and try a dive for free in the Coral Leisure Centre, October 14th and 21st. Please contact Steve Fallon, Training officer, for further details (086) 8215565.
