GAA Club Preview – Your club this weekend



The junior championship game against St Joseph’s fixed for this Wednesday was postponed due to a death in the St Joseph’s club. The junior team play St Croan’s this weekend in the last round of the O’Gara cup, check fixtures for details. The club lotto draw is on this Saturday night, please support


The McGovern Directional Drilling Intermediate side now return to the O’Rourke Cup league where they meet Western Gaels on Saturday evening next the 4th with a chance of qualifying for the semi-finals. The Feeelystone Junior side play Kilglass in the Northern semi-final on Sunday next, see fixtures for details. The minor club officials deserve special thanks for their efficient running of the Garda Cup Final won convincingly by Western Gaels over Strokestown and also their hosting of the U8 Blitz on a wet Saturday morning last. The Ladies seniors lost to Strokestown in Boyle on Sunday, thus ending their Championship challenge. The U14 girls had a win over Western Gaels last week. The club expresses its sympathy to Frank Dwyer on the recent death of his brother Benny.

Castlerea St Kevin’s

Castlerea St Kevins are holding a Golf Classic in Castlerea Golf Club on Friday Sept 10th and Saturday Sept 11th. Teams of four players €120, time sheets available from (086) 3644149. There are numerous prizes available including green fees to the top golf clubs in Ireland. There is also a draw for two all Ireland football tickets, tickets are available from any club official. The senior team defeated Kilmore in the County quarter final on Sunday last in Elphin, see match report elsewhere. They now play Elphin in the semi-final possibly on 12th September. The senior team have a very important O’Rourke cup game versus Padraig Pearse’s next Saturday in O’Rourke Park. The junior quarter final versus Clan Na nGael is fixed for 8th September possibly under lights in Kiltoom. Camogie coaching for girls takes place in O’Rourke Park on Thursday evenings at 6 pm. Next bingo is in O’Rourke Centre on Friday 3rd September at 9 pm. The jackpot this week will be €28,500 on 47 calls or less. Quick lotto is at €450.  

Éire Óg

The U12 team continued their good run in the championship with a comprehensive 3-7 to 1-2 win over St. Dominic’s in Knockcroghery on Sunday. Well done to Dennis Barron who was a member of the Connacht U16 panel recently. The Club Lotto rota for this week reads as follows: Gorthaganny John Doory and Loughglynn Tom Nolan and Michael Jordan Our club extends sympathy to the family and friends of the late John Sherlock.


Kilbride will play Padraig Pearse’s in the final relegation playoff. No date has been fixed for the match as yet. Kilbride are scheduled to play St. Barry’s in their final match of the league stages this Saturday evening at 7.30 pm in Tarmonbarry. The club wishes to congratulate Johnny Farrell and Caitriona Murray on their recent marriage and wish them all the best for the future.

Kilglass Gaels

It was possibly the best week the club has had in a long time. We scooped first prize in the provincial part of the Kellogg’s Field of Dreams and netted €10,000 for the pitch. Now we are in the All Ireland final and up against stiff opposition from three other clubs. You can vote by texting Kelloggs ‘Connacht’ to 53799 or log onto the Kellogg’s website and vote there by email and text again. Or if you wish for the club to do it for you please pass your details onto any of the club members. 

Michael Glavey’s

The Junior A team live to fight another day when they drew with Elphin in the Championship on Sunday at noon in Castlerea. The Intermediate Ladies play Éire Óg in the Championship semi final on Sunday 

Cash for clobber bags will be distributed to the local national schools during the week. The final collection for these bags will be at Dr Hyde Park on Tuesday 14th of September. The club extends its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the late John Sherlock.

Padraig Pearse’s

The Seniors are down to play Castlerea St Kevin’s in the final round of the League next Saturday evening at 5.30 pm in Castlerea. Awin or draw in this game should see Pearse’s remain in Senior league next year, a loss would leave the side depending on results in other games.

The U12 hurlers recorded a relatively easy victory over a very plucky Tulsk selection last Wednesday evening in Tulsk. However they will have to come up a gear if they hope to over come arch rivals Four Roads next Saturday Sept 4th in Hyde Park at 1.15 pm in the county semi-final.

Roscommon Gaels

The club U12 hurling team play in the county semi-final on Saturday in Hyde park at 12 noon. Please support. Roscommon Gaels have now purchased two defibrillators. One will be placed at the Hyde Centre and the other at the pitch in Lisnamult. Two training courses have been completed and further courses will take place in the near future. Any club member who would like to take part in a defibrillator course should contact (087) 9053752. Sincere sympathy is offered to the Gilleran family on the death of Mrs Gilleran, Clooncraff and to the Hannon family, Cloverhill on the death of Audrey’s sister.

St Brigid’s

The U10 boys defeated Ballinasloe last Wednesday and play Clann on Thursday 2nd September at 7 pm in Kiltoom. The U8 boys performed excellently at a blitz in Fuerty last weekend well done to all concerned.

The ladies had a comprehensive win over Kilbride on Sunday evening and have now qualified for the semi-final we wish them the best of luck and hope they continue to play the brilliant football that has got them this far in the championship.

St Croan’s

The minor team are due to play St. Michael’s in the preliminary round of the Division 2 championship on Friday in Cootehall. The club would like to congratulate Damien and Mary Garvey on the birth of their son John and Cathal and Julie-Ann Finan on the birth of their son Oisín. The club extends its sympathies to the Collins family, Ballyglass on the recent death of Martin Collins. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.

St Dominic’s

Dominic’s will play St Michael’s in the O’Gara Cup in Knockcroghery on this Sunday, 5th Sept at 12 noon. A win for Dominic’s will guarantee a semi-final spot. Training as usual on Wednesday and Friday evenings this week. Senior Hurling: Our play off game against Four Roads is now fixed for this Sat 4th Sept in Athleague. Camogie: Training continues for Under 8s, 10s and 12s each Monday evening at 6.30 pm. Training for U12s on Wednesday evenings at 6 pm. Training for Under 16s and Junior teams continues at 11 am sharp each Saturday morning. 

Ladies Football: Training for Junior Ladies takes place on Tuesdays at 8.30 pm and on Fridays at 7.30 pm. Training continues on Tues evenings at 6.30 pm for all our U14 down to U8s. Training for our beginners, U8s and U10s will continue on this Sunday 5th Sept from 12.30 to 1.30 pm. U12 football: Training this Thursday evening from 7-8 pm. The side play Padraig Pearse’s in the next round on Mon 6th Sept in Woodmount at 7 pm. Minor Football: Dominic’s face Tulsk in the Championship on this Friday evening at 6.45 in Tulsk. Training has been going well over the past few weeks and the lads are capable matching anyone on their day. The Club offer its sympathy to the Gilleran Family on the death of Mrs Gilleran and the Beven Family of Bantry Co Cork on the Death of Mrs Bevan.

St Faithleach’s

St Joseph’s

The next stage of the Junior Championship takes place in Kilbride next Wednesday 8th Sept, at 8 pm v Ballinameen. As this is a very important game for St. Joseph’s, all supporters are encouraged to come along and cheer on the team. Training continues as usual twice weekly in Kilteevan pitch. Players are asked to make a special effort to attend. Congratulations to Linda Carroll and Aidan Mulry on their recent wedding. The club wishes the couple a very happy and healthy life together. Congratulations to Mark and Tish Fox on the birth of their son Mark Jnr, a future player of the Joes! and to Peter and Vanessa Gilleran on the birth of their daughter Megan. Best wishes to all. St Michael’s

The minor side have their first round championship match this Friday evening against St Croan’s at Cootehall. Check fixtures for match time. Come along and support your team. Winners; Noel Conlisk, Mary Gallagher and Paul and Kevin Hunt. Many thanks to Boyle GAA for their hospitality for our Championship match played at Abbey Park recently. The Club extends its sympathy to the Hogg family, the Lane family and Fr Brian Conlon on their recent bereavements.


Tulsk GAA club will be holding a fun quiz night in the Tulsk Inn on Saturday 4th September 2010. Everyone is welcome.


Four Roads

Congratulations to the hurlers from the Club who represented the County in both the All Ireland Minor and U21 Championships. Well done to our U12 hurlers and their mentors who have reached the county semi final, in which they play Padraig Pearse’s, this Saturday 4th September in Hyde Park at 1.15 pm. The Senior Hurlers are playing St Dominic’s in a must-win game on Saturday evening in Athleague at 4.30 pm. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Four Roads

U10: Training continues on Saturday morning at 11.30 am at Tisrara Community Pitch. U14: There were two away games played last week. The first game was played in Ballintubber against St. Croan’s on Tuesday evening last. Unfortunately the girls were defeated but kept their heads held high as they waited for their second game, which was played on Thursday evening last against Clann nGael. This was a terrific game of football from both sides and the victory of the game was not decided until the last kick of the match when Four Roads kicked the ball over the bar to win by a point.

Well done to the girls and they now have two wins out of three matches played. Game scheduled for Friday the 3rd of September at 7 pm at Tisrara Community Pitch against Michael Glavey’s. Best of luck. Thanks to all parents for travelling to both matches last week.



The U12 team are through to the Under 12 A County Final on Saturday next when they take on Padraig Pearse’s in the final, which will be played in Knockcroghery. The Club are the defending champions and are hoping to retain the title. When the teams met in the round robin section of the Competition Padraig Pearse’s defeated them by one goal. The team will be chosen from the following panel: Aoife Brennan, Eithne Brennan, Katie Brennan, Nora Brennan, Emily Crean, Lara Croghan, Siobhan Doolan, Emer Farrell, Niamh Farrell, Rachel Fitzmaurice, Lauren Flaherty, Chloe Golden, Rachel Hamill, Ellie Kavanagh, Laura Keenan, Katie Lavin, Molly Naughton, Tara Naughton, Rachel Neilan, Rebecca Neilan, Aoibhe Tiernan, Meadbh Tiernan, Simone Tighe and Yasmin Tighe.
