Connacht win for Donamon cyclists

The Connacht Youth Cycling Championships were held in Kiltimagh, Co. Mayo last week with the Donamon Dynamos being ably represented by Daragh Bailey and Daire Feeley in the U14 section.

First up for the two Donamon Dynamos riders was the Connacht Time Trial Championship, which was held on Wednesday evening. The competition was run over a 4.5 mile distance and was won by Daire Feeley in a time of 10 min 20 sec with Daragh Bailey finishing in third place. Both riders posted exceptional times beating some of the times posted in the U16 section.

On Saturday the Connacht Road Race Championships took place over a 13 mile course. The two Donamon riders battled it out in the early stages with two Castlebar riders who stuck with them up to the last few hundred metres. A sprint for the line left the two Dynamos in a head-to-head finish with only millimetres separating them. It took a photo finish to decide first place with Daire Feeley edging it by the narrowest of margins.

Both riders will now compete in the All-Ireland Cycling Championships, which take place in Tyrone next weekend, and the club wish them every success in their endeavours.
