Barn dance for hospice

A barn dance at Burke’s farm, Coogue, Aghamore, Co. Mayo, in aid of Mayo Roscommon Hospice, will take place on Sunday, August 28th.

The main organisers, Donal Byrne, Mick Burke and his son Gerard, are putting the finishing touches to the huge slatted shed, which housed almost two hundred cattle last winter.

“There was a great crowd at last year’s event – much bigger than we expected, so we’ve extended the dancing and performance area this year to also include the ‘L shape’ area of the barn. We‘ve added a new wing to the bar to help serve the people in that additional area.” said Dónal.

“We all know of someone that has experienced care from the Palliative Care Service. We managed to raise over €7,000 last year and we hope to exceed that target this year.

“The line-up includes At The Racket, one of the finest trad bands in the region, The Phoenix Show, one of the great surviving dance bands. John O’Halloran and Emma O’Sullivan of the All-Ireland Talent Show will also be doing their stuff on the night. To finish up, popular DJ Michael Adams will create ‘murder on the dance floor’, until the early hours!” added Gerard Burke.

Several local performers will also take part – Olwyn Murray who was a finalist in the All-Ireland Talent Show, Lorna Jordan who was a runner-up in ‘The West Factor’ Talent winner Competition, as well as All-Ireland champion Dancers Dámhóg Frain and Sharon Kilduff.

Tickets cost €20 and can be purchased in: Moran’s Lounge, Aughamore; Paddy Phillip’s Bar and Gareth Delaney’s Pub, Ballyhaunis; Mulvihill’s in Castlerea; Ryan’s Bar, Kiltimagh; Coney Island Lounge, Gorthaganny; Mayo Roscommon Hospice Office, Knock or alternatively contact Gerard at (086) 3335746 or Dónal at (086) 8775571.
