‘Finance tourism’ call by councillor

Cllr. John Naughten has praised the work Roscommon County Council has done to promote the county as a tourist destination and called on Fáilte Ireland to invest additional funding in Roscommon.

“In recent years Roscommon County Council has spent €7m developing tourism within the county including projects such as those at Lough Key Forest Park, Hodson Bay water sports centre and King House as well as a number of smaller scale amenities,” stated Cllr. Naughten. “This has been very welcome investment and has helped to enhance the county’s appeal to visitors.

“In addition, the Council will provide €75,300 for the support of tourism activities in the county in 2010, which includes implementing the County Tourism Strategy action plan.

“I am now calling on Fáilte Ireland to provide additional funding to promote local tourist destinations in Roscommon such as open farms, B&Bs and local parks. There are many fine attractions in the county from larger scale projects to swimming pools, playgrounds, parks and walking routes and it is important that we market Roscommon to its full potential and highlight the top rate amenities which are on offer.”
