Ladies: The competition sponsored by the Golden Eagle Lounge was won by Maura Kelly 46 pts; 2nd Pamela Moran 43 pts. The mixed foursomes team had a great win over Enniscrone on Wednesday July 7th, winning three matches to two. The final match went to the 19th hole in Enniscrone before Castlerea emerged victorious. They now play Oughterard in the Connacht semi-final in Ballina on Friday July 23rd. Mens: The following are the results of the Bernie Keane Memorial Cup held on Sunday July 11th: 1st Daryl Kelly 43 pts; 2nd Noel Mannion 42 pts; Cat 1 Keith Hunt 40 pts; Cat 2 Sean Naughton 41 pts; Cat 3 Gerry Ryan 39 pts.


The Gilmartin Trophy GOY played on Sunday last saw some pretty hot scoring with 25 percent of the field breaking par, resulting in the CSS at 39 points. Hottest of all was Michael Nolan with 46 points, one ahead of Gordon Kavanagh who three putted the last for 45. Albert Hogg picked up the gross with 34 points and Tommie Kenoy’s long lay off through injury hasn’t effected his game he picked up third on 43 points. The categories went to: Category expert John Coffey won Cat 2 on 40 points, Jim “Duval” McLoughlin won Cat 3 on 43 points and Bearach Doherty Cat 4 on 40 points. The nines were won by Michael Masterson (front on 22) and John McGuinn (back on 24). Full results online at Following on from the club’s success in the U15’s Inter Club in Westport on Friday 2nd July, the club qualified for the semi final of the Kenny Cup by being top qualifiers on Tuesday July 6th in the North Connacht section of the Kenny Cup held in Carrick Golf Club, with a four-card total of 268, 17 shots ahead of second qualifier Enniscrone on 285. The team now play Galway or Loughrea in the semi final on August 9th in Swinford Golf Club. Representing the club was Jordan Nally (9) Paul Lavin (10) Paddy Nally (14) Dylan Beirne (11) Paddy Nally (14) Niall Brennan (20). On Saturday the Cecil Ewing team teed off their campaign against neighbours Boyle, and had a very convincing 4-1 win, winning two at home and one away with other two away halved. Leading the home charge Fiachra Neary and Oliver Curran won 4/3, Michael Duignan and Shane Kelly also 4/3 winners, away Sean Gilmartin and Jim Newcombe were on 19th and called in, Padraig MacShera and Collie Griffin were one up playing 17 and called in and Pat Conlisk and Donal Hanly won 3/2. As part of the Centenary celebrations the club is offering members, their families and local businesses the opportunity to participate in the celebration through sponsorship of a tee box. Sponsorship is available for each of the tee boxes on the course at a cost of €500. The name of the donor or their family will be engraved on a sign at the tee box and so provide a wonderful opportunity to be thought of, fondly remembered by, and inspire all golfers playing the course.
