The President’s Prize final will take place on Saturday 12th June at 4 pm. It will be preceded by a three-person scramble, see timesheet on notice board.

Both Jimmy Bruen and Pierce Purcell’s teams are in action again this week. Good luck to both teams and we ask as many members as possible to come along and support both teams.

Thanks to the many members who donated money and shrubs for the front of clubhouse shrubbery. We hope the recent planting will enhance this area and bring a little colour around the clubhouse. You can still donate some shrubs or contribute to this fund, contact Sinead on (086) 8565763.


Castlerea Golf Club

Ladies: The competition sponsored by Gilmartin’s Cash and Carry was won by Mamie Creaton 67 nett. Second was Mary O’Gara 69 nett. Mens: The following are the results of the Stroke Competition sponsored by Padraig Newman, held on Sunday June 6th: 1st Barry Finnegan 62 nett; 2nd James Joyce 63 nett; Cat 1 Anto McCormack 64 nett; Cat 2 Johnny Mahoney 64 nett; Cat 3 Michael Mulligan 66 nett.

Carrick-on-Shannon Golf Club

The 8th annual Club Classic played over last weekend was a tremendous success due mainly to the commitment from club members, but also support from neighbouring clubs, like Boyle, Ballinamore, Strokestown, Tuam, Castlerea, Ballymote, Strandhill, Co Longford, as well as friends and associates from all parts. Played off our green course for the first time, scoring was hot with five teams breaking the century mark, the top score from members Colm Griffin, John Coffey, Sean Bohan and Shane Kelly of 109 was the winning total, followed by George Martyn, Pat Conlisk, John and Noeleen Moffatt on 103 with Philip Tansey, Eamonn McGirl, Gerard and Austin McDermott third with 102 B9, 4th place went to Chris Lowe, Noel McDermott, Albert Hogg and Joe Bruen, fifth Padraig MacShera, Jim and Mary King, Niall Roche on 101, sixth Mossie and Tom Martin, Seamus and Niall Sweeney 100, 7th Mel O’Brien, Becks, Vincent Molloy and Joe Casey 99, 8th Ollie Curran, Sean McMonagle, Anthony Noone and John McGuinn, 9th also on 99 Tommy, Sean and Dolores Mulvey and Michael Kelly, with 97 points and 10th place Andrew Creighton, Martin Devane, Will Carson and Martin Territt, Castle Dargan vouchers for 11th place went to Ann Campbell, Peggy Nolan, Phil McWeeney and Kathleen Loftus, Anna and Aiden Sheerin, Michael Duignan and Padraig O’Dowd won vouchers to Glasson. Longest drive for gents went to Darragh Loftus, Hilary Collins won ladies drive and Ollie Moran nearest the pin, the Birdies were won by Gerry Emmett and 10th Green tee shot by Damien Duignan. Front 9 went to John Crowe and Noel, PJ and Jack Sharkey and Back 9 to David McDermott, Kieran Oates, Bearach Doherty and Fiachra Neary, both teams win entry to JP McManus invitational on Mon July 5th next. The championship season is in full flow and to keep with the championship fever we have the second running of Sam Beag, where players from Leitrim and Roscommon compete for the Sam Beag trophy sponsored by 2008 Captains Tommie & Teresa Kenoy  The format is single stableford off white tees with any amount of players eligible to compete for each side, but the top 15 scores to count for the teams’ total.
