The Alan Gately Memorial Cup Hurling Tournament is to be held in Knockcroghery on Sunday the 13th of June. Matches will be played at 2 pm between Team A managed by Sean Melia and Team D managed by Tony Lyons, and at 3 pm between Team B managed by Vincent Pierse and Team C managed by Micheal Cox.
The final will take place at 4.30 pm. M.C. for the day will be Kevin Rogers, and each match will last 40 minutes. If teams are level at full-time, then penalties will decide. All proceeds from the tournament are going to Crumlin Children’s Hospital.
Alan Gately learned his first hurling skills in Ballymurray N.S., and as he progressed further along his hurling career, he played for St. Dominics at all age levels, and also donned the county jersey with distinction. After completing his masters in biomedical engineering at NUIG, he travelled the world, experiencing more in his short life than many can only ever dream of. However he always enjoyed returning home and was a familiar face both on and off the pitch. This tournament is to honour his memory and his contribution to the club.
