The Labour Party has announced the appointment of Eugene Deering to oversee the partyís continued growth in the North West region.
With party membership growing in the region, the party has appointed Eugene as its North-West Constituency Support Officer. The area will cover Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo, Leitrim, Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan. Eugene is son of the Maureen and the late Eugene Deering, Sligo. Educated at Summerhill College, Sligo, Eugene holds a BA in English and Politics from UCG and a post-graduate Diploma in Journalism from DCU.
Eugene began his media career in Roscommon and from there he worked in Donegal, Dublin and the midlands, before returning to become Editor of the Athlone Topic, a post he held for the past ten years. Eugene is also well-known in the region through soccer refereeing circles.
He is looking forward to developing the Labour Party in the region and playing a key role in the partyís ongoing success into the next general election. ďItís a very exciting time for the Labour Party at this moment and Iím delighted to play my part in ensuring that Labour supporters in the region will have Labour Party candidates to vote for in the next general election.Ē
