Good league run ends

NATIONAL CAMÓGIE LEAGUE DIVISION THREE

Laois 0-13 Roscommon 0-10

Roscommon’s good run in the National League came to an end last Sunday in Athleague against Laois but the Rossie girls pushed their top of the table opponents all the way and were unlucky not to have got something out of the game.

Roscommon played well in the first half and by half time they led by 0-8 to 0-5. But Laois powered on in the second period and Roscommon could manage only two second half points in what was a very well-contested encounter. That being said, the scores were level with ten minutes to go, but it was Laois who finished the stronger team.

Once again it was the Roscommon duo of Annette McGeeney and Kelly Hopkins who did most of the scoring for Roscommon. McGeeney was Roscommon’s outstanding player, landing five points in all, while Hopkins was unerring from the placed ball, grabbing four points from frees. Four points from McGeeney helped Roscommon to a three-point half time lead.

Roscommon defended well in the second half with Catriona Regan and Siobhan and Niamh Coyle particularly prominent, but Louise Mahoney with five points and Emer Delaney with three points were the Laois aces in the pack on the day. However it was a very good display from Roscommon who seem to be improving with every game.
