Jenny’s national title

There was major success for the Roscommon town based boxing club The Four Corners Club last weekend when Jenny Harte, who is a native of County Sligo and a member of the club, won a national title at the National Stadium, winning the 48kg category and beating her Dundalk opponent Catherine O’Grady in the final.

The bout was stopped in the third round and her opponent faced three counts. It is the first All-Ireland title that has come to the Four Corners Club since its formation in 2008. Co-ordinator of the club Brian Mongan was honoured at the Roscommon Sports Awards last Friday night. 24-year-old Jenny has thanked her coaches at the Four Corners Boxing Club and she now hopes to build on her success at forthcoming major championships.

Frenchpark Boxing Club

In last week’s Frenchpark Boxing Club round-up it was erroneously suggested that Frenchpark club boxer Patrick Mullen had lost his bout in the Mick Ward Memorial Tournament in Castlerea.

In fact Patrick won his bout to continue his excellent form. Apologies for the error.

Meanwhile three of the club boxers made progress in the Connacht Championships over the weekend in Westport. Aidan Dowd, Cian Beirne and Bernard Morahan have progressed to the final stages.
