Roscommon GAA VHI Cul Camps Week 5

The Roscommon GAA VHI Cul Camps programme for week five has camps in Ballinlough (football), and a dual football and hurling camp in Monksland from next Monday, 30th July to August 3rd from 10 am to 2.30 pm.

VHI Cul Camps numbers for first three weeks 

We have held three weeks of camps so far and despite the poor weather the numbers attending our football and hurling camps have being excellent. They are as follows: Dr. Hyde Park – football (165), Abbey Park, Boyle (83), St. Dominic’s – hurling (77), Dr. Hyde Park – football (171), Elphin – football (106) and Four Roads – hurling (71). Also,  Padraig Pearses – football (115), Tarmonbarry – football (89) and Dr. Hyde Park – hurling (105). We thank the venues who have allowed us hold the camps along with Roscommon Community College who allowed us to use their facilities at short notice during the first week. We hope all the kids attending our camps enjoyed themselves with the new GAA kits going down very well. 


U14 football championship coming to close

The U14 football championship is now coming to a close with the division two and three finals down for decision. Check fixtures for more details. 

Winning start for Roscommon in Fr. Manning Cup

Roscommon U16 footballers commenced this year’s intercounty Fr. Manning cup football competition with a 1-11 to 0-7 victory over Sligo last Wednesday evening in Curry. This season’s campaign has two groups of three: Roscommon, Leitrim and Sligo in one section, Longford, Offaly and Westmeath in section two. Top two team from each group reaches semi-finals. Roscommon have a bye on this Wednesday evening as Leitrim play Sligo. Roscommon play Leitrim on Wednesday week, August 1st at a Roscommon venue. Check fixtures list for confirmation of time and venue.

U14-15 hurling development coaching in Athleague

Just a reminder to all under U14-15 players that our development squad hurling coaching session will take place in Athleague on this Saturday morning at 10 am sharp. The turn-out of players has being very positive.

U15 football development squad training in Kilbride

Roscommon Coaching and games development have picked a squad of 40 players and training continues for all players on next Tuesday evening, July 31st in Kilbride at 7 pm sharp. There is a possibility of a match against Sligo; players will be notified if the game goes ahead. Players must bring their own water and fruit to training at all times. The response from the players has being brilliant to date.

Roscommon coaching and games development have picked a squad of 40 players and training continues for all players on this Tuesday evening July 24th in Kilbride at 7 pm sharp. All players must bring their own water and fruit to the sessions. Keep up the good works lads – with the commitment and dedication shown so far. 

Hurling helmets for schools and clubs

If any primary schools or hurling clubs wish to purchase helmets at cost price they can do so by contacting Games Manager Willie Hegarty at the Roscommon GAA County board office. Juvenile helmets cost €50 while adult cost €60.

Sliothar deals for schools and clubs

The Coaching and Games Development are now in a position to offer sliothars to schools and clubs at €5 each or €60 a dozen. Please contact Games Manager Willie Hegarty for more information. An adult sliothar will also cost the same price.

Hurleys for schools and clubs

We are also in the same position to offer hurlers as we have a company who can supply us with hurleys for underage players. 32” will cost €16, 34” at €18. Once again contact Willie Hegarty for more information.

Coaching DVDs for sale

The Roscommon Coaching and Games Development have some excellent coaching DVDs for sale from their coaching workshops held over the past few months – coaching the tackle with Des Newton, fitness with the ball by Mickey McGeehan, forward play by Martin McHugh and a coaching session with All-Ireland winning Kerry manager Jack O’Connor. All DVDs cost €10 and can be purchased from Games Manager Willie Hegarty at the Roscommon GAA County Board Office or by contacting coaching officer Seamus Sweeney.
