Well-known singer songwriter Don Baker will be the guest at a cruise on the Shannon on Easter Sunday afternoon as part of the Siarsceal festival. Other highlights include a master class in creative writing and the annual Hanna Greally Poetry Awards.
Another exciting part of the Siarsceal event takes place in Roscommon County Library on Saturday, March 20th for writers and poets in the region. A highlight of the event will be the Hanna Greally Poetry Awards presented by adjudicators novelist Michael Mullen and bilingual poet adjudicator Nuala Ni Chonchuir, featuring readings from guest writes, and a choral medley with the Sliabh Bán singers from Boyle.
Award winning bilingual poet and novelist Nuala Ni Chonchuir will be reading from a selection of her work, including her latest short story collection ‘Nude’, an explorative, self-questioning agenda, full of witty voices rendering adventures both savage and absurd.
Refreshments and exhibition appraisal will follow. The themed painting words exhibition by local artist and writers will be launched on the competition themes which are: ‘Home Place in Translation’, ‘Threading my existence through family gone before’ and thirdly ‘Roscommon my home’. Novelist, historian, playwright, and children’s author Michael Mullen will give a creative writing Master Class in Roscommon Library at 2 pm. From four ‘til six there is an open mike.

As part of the SiarSceal collaborative from the Suck to the Shannon, you can cruise down the Shannon on Easter Sunday afternoon, April 4th, with Don Baker on Moon River Pleasure Cruiser. U2’s Bono described him as ‘The greatest harmonica player in the world’ and Don will be playing and singing from his albums including his new CD ‘Rain on the wind’.
