‘New drainage policy needed’

Strokestown Area Cllr. Eugene Murphy, right,  has said this week that there must be greater emphasis on drainage throughout the county to try and prevent flooding.

“I will be looking for a better drainage policy in the upcoming Estimates meeting of Roscommon County Council. The heavy rainfall of the past few weeks would have led to flooding, so I think we could not have avoided some of the devastation but we do need to tackle our rivers and drains and clean up the muck, silt and rubbish that is present everywhere.

“I compliment Roscommon County Council on their work for people stranded in the Strokestown Area who were stranded due to the floods. They did an excellent job and deserve the height of praise.”
