Figures released to Fine Gael’s Cllr. John Naughten this week have shown that Roscommon County Council is paying €650,000 per year to rent office space in Roscommon town.
The figures were released as a result of a question from Cllr. Naughten relating to the cost of renting office space in the town and also the savings that could be made by the provision of new civic offices.
The figures showed that while the council is currently paying €650,000 per year in rent, the cost of repayments on a loan to construct new civic headquarters, at current interest rates, would be €705,000 per year. It is understood that the construction of new offices would generate savings in staffing, energy and inter office communication costs.
