A number of fundraisers are planned for October to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society as part of breast cancer awareness month.
The Art Auction is for a piece kindly donated by Frances McGonigle which will be displayed in the window space beside Future flowers/AIB, Church Street, Roscommon. Bids will be accepted by Future Flowers for anyone interested in bidding but who cannot make it to the table quiz, a nominee will bid incrementally on their behalf up to their nominated maximum. The auction will take place during the break of the table quiz and bids will be accepted up until close of business on Thursday 15th or at the table quiz live auction.
The table quiz will be on Thursday October 15th, at 8 pm, in Paddy Finns bar, Kilteevan. Quiz master for the night will be Dermot Cox. Table of four €40. There will be the art auction and raffle during the half time break and food on the night has been kindly sponsored by Owen Dervin & Sons Co.
The headshave will take place in Tom Beirne’s pub, Georges, on Friday night October 16th beginning at 9.30 pm. Local man Padraig Mulhern from Lanesboro Street, Roscommon, and former Casey’s mechanic, will be shaving his head and getting rid of his long hair for the cause. People can sponsor Padraig directly, there is a sponsorship card in Future Flowers beside the AIB, they can contact me through the paper or come along on the night to support and watch out for collectors around the square area.
Frances McGonigle is a 2005 graduate of Crawford College of Art, Cork. She has since undertaken a MPhil in Art History (UCC), researching the hierarchy of animal depictions in art up to the present day. She recently held an exhibition in Roscommon Arts Centre entitled ‘The Ten Directions’, referring to the Buddist metaphor for the enlightened state. The works were inspired by the translucent nature of the bird.
