Itís been in existence since 2003 Ė but do you realise such how good, and how local, a service community radio station 94.6 RosFm provides?
RosFm broadcasts to listeners in Roscommon town and environs and really is, as its slogan says, Ďat the heart of the communityí. The award-winning station broadcasts from 2 pm to 9 pm from Monday to Friday Ė and plans to extend that coverage.
A major Open Day takes place on Friday, July 20th at the stationís fabulous new state-of-the-art premises at Athlone Road, Roscommon. While there are four employees in the Pobal-funded station, there are up to 30 volunteers involved in the daily production of high quality radio. The station manager is Matt Rogers. The stationís new offices were grant-aided under the Leader Programme from Roscommon Leader Partnership.
RosFm is the only station in Ireland to have a specific disability ethos in its broadcasting licence and the station provides dedicated programming pertaining to disability issues.
The Open Day will afford the public a chance to view the stationís superb facilities and will be an ideal opportunity for prospective volunteers to meet with station management and staff. Volunteering at the station might particularly apply to students are others who may be keen on pursuing a career in radio. Training will be provided.
Special guests on the Open Day will be entertainer Mike Denver, RTE Midlands Correspondent Ciaran Mullooly and Roscommon Rose of Tralee Christabelle Feeney. There will be refreshments on the day and everyone is invited!
