Two Romanian brothers who escaped from Castlerea Prison on Sunday night last are still at large and Gardai are continuing the search for them. 29-year-old Vasile Feier and his 23-year-old brother Toader Feier disappeared from the Grove House complex in Castlerea Prison on Sunday night.
It is understood that they left a letter behind indicating that they had no choice but to abscond as they were fearful that they might have been deported. The men were serving a sentence at the low security unit at the prison on charges of stealing from parking meters in Galway City.
The men were last seen on Sunday night at 11 pm but when a check was carried out on Monday morning, they were missing. Both the brothers were due to be released in April 2013.
Gardai said yesterday (Wednesday) that they are continuing their search for the two men and if anyone has any information they are asked to contact the Gardai in Castlerea 094-9620019.
