On Thursday 5th April last, there were 850 cattle on offer and despite the recent inclement weather condition trade remained excellent with some fancy prices paid for the top quality lots. There was an increased demand for suck calves and breeding stock while the weanling trade remained very strong with a large attendance of buyers present resulting in a good clearance.
Sample price as follows: Heifers – Lim 240 kgs €1260; Lim 405 kgs €1195; Ch 480 kgs €1405; Lim 460 kgs €1355; Ch 550 kgs €1625; Ch 610 kgs €1585; Dry cows – Lim 835 kgs €1680; Ch 765 kgs €1620; AA 705 kgs €1450.
Cows with calves at foot made from €1340 to €1620 for a second calf cow and a bull calf at foot. Springer cows made from €1180 to €1720 per head. Calves – Fr type calves made from €82 to €360 per head while continental types made from €400 to €612 per head. Weanlings – Ch bulls 190 kgs €705 ; Lim 270 kgs €985; Ch 260 kgs €975; Ch 375 kgs €1275; AA 270 kgs €800; B Her 260 kgs €790. WW Heifers – Ch 280 kgs €990; Lim 275 kgs €955; Sim 340 kgs €1150; Ch 330 kgs €1160; Ch 320 kgs €1080; Sim 365 kgs €1075.
A bullock sale took place on the Monday 2nd April with 250 cattle on offer with bullocks making from €500 to €1130 over their weight with an average price of €846 over paid. A large attendance of customers were in attendance resulting in a full clearance.
