There is some good news for Roscommon Hospital this week as it has been confirmed by the Hospital Action Committee that the Observation Ward and the Heart Monitoring of patients has resumed at the hospital following a meeting between the committee members and Mr Bill Maher, CEO, Galway & Roscommon Hospitals Group.
Chairperson of the HAC John McDermott says that the re-instatement of the facilities are crucial to the continued operation of the hospital. “What happened was that the Coronary Care Unit was deemed as part of the medical ward and that meant that there was only one nurse on duty for the coronary care beds. It meant that the unit was not suitable to provide care for patients with heart complaints and it would have had implications for the operation of the medical assessment unit as well.
“We met with Bill Maher two weeks ago and the good news is that he has put in place arrangements for the staffing of the unit and we welcome that development. It is vital that we retain our coronary care unit for the operation of the hospital as a whole because without it we would have little more than a nursing home” Mr. McDermott concluded. .
