Award for Athlone Gateway development

The Gateway Development was named as the ‘best mixed development’ at the Local Authority Members’ Association awards, which were held in the Burlington Hotel in Dublin on January 30th, 2010.

On hearing the news, Cllr. John Keogh, right who had nominated the development, said that he was “pleased that the development had taken the top award and was delighted to have nominated the project”.

“It’s important to recognise how significant the development is. It has quickly becoming the hub for the Monksland area. The presence of the hotel, SuperValu supermarket, pharmacies, takeaways, gym and other facilities have been a huge attraction for people looking to move into the adjacent housing estates in River Village and Corran Riada and the entire Monksland/Bealnamullia area. People are moving into the area because of the proximity of such facilities and the presence of the Monksland Medical Centre is another major attraction.

“Monksland has rapidly expanded over the last number of years and continues to grow. The area is serviced by quite a number of businesses which include Lastmile Broadband, ActionPhysio, I105-107 Radio, Supersavers and many other business all of which operate from the Monksland area. I wish all the businesses in the Gateway Development/Athlone Springs Complex and the rest of the Monksland area continued success in the years ahead. There is a strong community being built and the convenience of such facilities greatly contributes to the process of community development,” concluded Cllr. Keogh.
