Search and rescue
The Roscommon Underwater Search and Rescue Unit will hold their annual Church Gate Collection next weekend. All monies collected will go towards the upkeep and maintenance of the unit. Organisers would like to thank you for your generous support in the past and hope that you will be able to support this collection.
Climate tip

Super salesman
A presentation on Patrick Sarsfield Gilmore entitled ‘Super-salesman of Music’ by Mr. Jarlath MacNamara will take place on Friday 5th February at 8.30 pm in the meeting room of the Mattie McDonagh Community Centre, Ballygar. One of the objectives of this slide presentation is to re-establish the Patrick S. Gilmore Society in Ballygar and hopefully enrich and develop musical and cultural developments in the area. All welcome.
Living with arthritis
A programme entitled ‘Living well with arthritis’ will start in Gleeson’s on Thursday, 29th April and will run until Thursday, 3rd June, from 7 pm to 9.30 pm. It costs €20 per person in total. Forthcoming novena
A novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help will take place in the Sacred Heart Church from Monday 8th March to Tuesday 16th March, 2010, conducted by Redemptorist team of Fr. Michael Dempsey CSsR and Fr. Brian Nolan CSsR. Further details at a later date.
Pioneers
Rosary and heroic offering will be recited in the Church during exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on Friday 5th February (7.30 to 8 pm). Applications for membership of the Pioneer Association will be taken after Mass in St. Coman’s Club followed by Pioneer Council Meeting.
Time to grieve
A Time To Grieve is a support group at Vita House where bereaved persons can come together in a supportive environment, taking the time and space to grieve, evaluate and heal, thus enabling them to accept their loss. It takes place on Tuesdays at 8:30 pm.
Understanding bullying
‘Understanding and dealing with School Bullying’ is the title of a four-week course at Vita House which examines the factors that enable school bullying and help parents understand the dynamics of the behaviour.
Lose weight feel great
Harness the power of your mind to lose weight! A motivational 6-week weight loss programme to deal with subconscious eating patterns and gain control over your diet and life starts on Thursday, 4th February at Vita House, Abbey Street, Roscommon, at 8 pm.

Prepare for Easter
The Lenten programme at Vita House will be launched by Bishop Jones on Thursday evening, February 4th at 8 pm in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon. As part of the evening, an Ursuline Sister, Moya Hegarty will give words of wisdom on praying the Psalms and the Gospels. All facilitators of the Lenten Groups and all participants of the Groups are invited and very welcome.
First Friday
Friday 5th February is the first Friday of the month. Masses will be celebrated at 8 am and 8 pm on that day. Confessions will be heard in the Sacred Heart Church before evening Mass from 7.30 to 8 pm.
Fáilte Isteach
English classes are arranged for foreign nationals living in the area at the Melting Pot, Roscommon. The classes take place in an informal and friendly way. Volunteers are required. If you can spare two hours weekly and would like to assist, just go along to the Melting Pot on Tuesday evening at 6.30 pm, or phone Tom on (086) 0604772 for further information.
First Saturday
Devotions to Our Lady of Fatima will commence in the Sacred Heart Church before the 10:30 am morning Mass on Saturday 6th February. All are welcome.
Study theology
Two theology programmes are about to get underway at St. Angela’s College near Sligo. The first is entitled ‘Introducing the New Testament’ and it takes place over three weekends, beginning 19th February. The second is ‘Understanding the Eucharist and it takes place over two weekends, beginning 17th April. The cost is €80 per module or €150 for both.
