Barrie Harris Walk on Valentine’s Day

The annual Barrie Harris Walk will take place in Creggs on Sunday, February 14th. The Walk had been scheduled to take place on St. Stephen’s Day, 2009, but had to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. Part of the funds raised in the walk on Valentine’s Day will be donated to the relief fund in Haiti.

Bumps n’ Babies

A support group for expectant mothers and new mothers called ‘Bumps n’ Babies’ has recommenced at the Melting Pot, Castle Court, Roscommon.

     The group meets in the Melting Pot café on Monday mornings from 11 am to 1 pm, with the first meeting on Monday, 8th February. The support group aims to facilitate an informal time for parents to meet and take a break for coffee and a chat, to provide parent-to-parent support and to give parents an opportunity to come together and learn from one another. Telephone support is provided from LaLeche League, Galway for mothers who are experiencing problems with breast feeding. 

Collection at weekend

The Roscommon Underwater Search and Rescue Unit will hold their annual Church Gate Collection next weekend on the 6th and 7th of February. All monies collected will go towards the maintenance of the unit. Organisers would like to thank you for your generous support in the past and hope that you will be able to contribute to this collection. 

Enrolment evening

St. Jarlath’s Vocational School, Mountbellew, open night and enrolment will take place in the school on Thursday, 4th February at 7 pm. All parents and sixth class primary school students are welcome to attend.

Healing Prayer

Free draw for health seminar tickets

Historical Society 

A meeting of the Co. Roscommon Historical and Archaeological Society will take place on Tuesday, 9th of February at 8.30 pm in the Percy French Hotel, Strokestown.

After the meeting a talk will take place entitled ‘Railway History in Ireland and further afield’ by Mr. Frank Dawson, Manager, Roscommon County Council. As it is close to the 150th anniversary of the railway crossing the Shannon to County Roscommon in 1861, this should prove to be an interesting talk on a transport system that made the world so much smaller, and enabled people to travel much further in safety and comfort than ever before. All welcome.

Common sense parenting!

A Common Sense Parenting Programme will start on Wednesday, 3rd February 2010 in Roscommon Women’s Network, Castlerea from 10.15 am to 12.30 pm. The programme is for parents of children 6-18 years and will run every Wednesday for six weeks. All are welcome.
