Naughten dismay at decision on Monksland bus service

Cllr. John Naughten has expressed his disappointment at the decision by Bus Éireann to reduce the frequency of its Monksland service.

Cllr. Naughten had previously urged management at Bus Éireann to protect the route serving the Athlone-Monksland area during its recent review of services.

“This is an extremely disappointing decision by Bus Éireann and one which will have serious implications for many people living in this area,” stated Cllr. Naughten. “This has been a well-utilised route, with many people relying on it to travel both to and from work and also to attend appointments or to shop in Athlone.

“I am now calling on Bus Éireann to clarify the new timetable that will operate on this route and the frequency of the buses that will operate. In addition, I am seeking a commitment from management at the company that this service will not come under further threat in the future.”
