There was plenty of praise for the hard-working Elphin Agricultural Show committee at last Thursday’s launch at The Central Bar in Elphin.
Senator Maura Hopkins complimented the committee while wishing chairman, Thomas Gormley, the very best for his first year in charge.
Senator Hopkins said that it was “positive to see Government support” for agricultural shows before describing the loyal sponsors as “very much crucial to the future of the Elphin Show”.
Cllr. Valerie Byrne paid tribute to the show’s previous president, Willie Casserly, who passed away last year.
“Willie was so proud to be president and supported the show and the mart throughout his life.
“I’d like to thank Cyril (McDermott) for all he’s done (as chairman). Tommy (Gormley) is a great worker and he’ll do a fine job,” she said.
Cllr. Liam Callaghan said it was great to see a young committee involved and described the show as “very, very important to Elphin”.
He also praised those involved for their hard work and expressed his gratitude to Elphin Mart manager Gerry Connellan and his staff.
