The Roscommon People is recognised as one of the leading examples of a quality free newspaper anywhere in Ireland. Roscommon-owned, the newspaper was launched by husband and wife team Paul and Fiona Healy in February 2007.
Paul and Fiona Healy are both natives of County Roscommon. They have both been working in the media in Roscommon since the late 1980s. Having played a key role, under successive owners, in the expansion and development of the Roscommon Champion over many years, Paul and Fiona saw an opportunity to launch a modern compact newspaper which reflected the evolving expectations of readers and advertisers – hence the Roscommon People was born.
A truly local paper
The Roscommon People is Roscommon-owned, Roscommon-based – and produced by a dynamic team of local people. It is produced by knowledgeable and experienced local employees – bringing a truly local newspaper to readers. The Roscommon People’s roots are in Roscommon and we support and promote everything that is positive about County Roscommon. During what has been a very difficult period for small businesses, we at the Roscommon People can certainly identify with the challenges facing small business owners in the region. At every opportunity, the Roscommon People promotes the need to support our local businesses in order to retain, sustain and grow employment here.
